What does Chin Augmentation involve?
The goals of chin augmentation are to reshape and enhance the size of the chin. You can achieve these goals with an implant or the reconstruction of existing bone and cartilage.
In this surgery, an incision is made underneath the chin or inside the mouth. If you decide on an implant, we create a cavity between the muscles and the chin bone. The implant will be placed into the cavity and attached to the bone. We can also use bone or fat tissue in place of an implant. If bones move during surgery, we make an incision through the mouth's lower gum. From there, the surgeon can reach the chin bone.
The procedure generally takes around three hours to complete and can be combined with other facial cosmetic procedures, such as rhinoplasty (nose surgery). In fact, chin augmentation is often performed with nose surgery to bring the facial features into perfect proportion.
