When you want to lose stubborn fat and tissue in your abdomen, you have a few different options to choose from. At Watt Plastic Surgery, we prefer the traditional methods of a tummy tuck or liposuction. Either of these procedures can be effective, but there are several things to consider before deciding which one is right for you.
Pinpointing the problem
The first thing that needs to be determined is what the actual problem is. What are your goals for this area of your body? Do you just have some stubborn pockets of fat, or are you experiencing some loose skin from weight loss as well? These two problems are addressed in very different ways.
If you have excess skin or tissue that you need removed in addition to fat, a tummy tuck is the best option. In this surgery the plastic surgeon will remove excess fat, skin, and tissue to give you the shape you want. If you just need some stubborn fat eliminated, liposuction is a much less invasive and completely effective treatment.
How much time can you spare for recovery?
If you are having a hard time figuring out when to schedule your cosmetic abdominal procedure, you might seriously consider how much time you can actually spare for recovery. A tummy tuck, although outpatient, is still considered a major surgery. That means you’re going to have some severe pain and physical limitations in the first week that you’ll need to prepare for.
If you don’t have time for that recovery period, you might reconsider liposuction. Even though it won’t help with toning, it might give you the boost you need to make your exercise efforts more effective in this regard.
How much can you afford?
Of course, because liposuction is performed in our office without general anesthesia required, liposuction is much less expensive than a tummy tuck. If cost is a factor, liposuction is the clear choice.
